One of the best things about sports is that there’s a massive emotional aspect to results for players and fans alike. However, when things don’t go to plan, it’s fair to say that some people can lose sight of what’s important and get carried away with their disappointment.
This is exactly what appears to have happened following LSU’s defeat to Iowa in the Elite 8. In an emotional interview following the game, Angel Reese was reduced to tears as she outlined how she has received death threats since winning the national championship last season.
Angel Reese Stands Strong
Speaking honestly, Reese noted she tries to “stand strong” and that she doesn’t want her teammates to see her down. Nevertheless, she also made an important point – “I’m still human”.
Frustrations on the Court
Having claimed that she hasn’t been happy since last season’s national championship victory, it’s understandable that frustrations on the court may feel even worse than usual. Notably, Reese was seen to angrily tell LSU coach Kim Milkey to “get me the f*****g ball” and went on to instruct her teammates to stop taking “dumb shots”.
Ultimately, this isn’t anything out of the ordinary when it comes to competitive sports, but it does show that players are dealing with a lot of pressure and the likes of death threats certainly won’t be helping to breed a positive mental state. Thankfully, it appears Reese’s teammates have her back, with Flau’Jae Johnson telling the media that Reese is a strong, caring, and loving person who is going to “make you believe in yourself”.
