Scottie Scheffler is no stranger to seeing his name in the headlines. In recent times, the world No. 1 golfer has been impressing fans around the world with his performances on the course and has added a staggering four PGA Tour wins to his resume this year alone, including a second Masters Tournament victory.
However, things have suddenly taken a massive turn for the worse for Scheffler because he’s now been arrested near the Valhalla Golf Club and subsequently charged with assault in the second degree of a police officer, criminal mischief in the third degree, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from officers directing traffic.
What Happened Before Scheffler Was Arrested?
The PGA Championship was delayed following an unrelated traffic accident in which a pedestrian was killed. As such, police were deployed to the scene and were redirecting traffic. It appears that Scheffler was caught up in this and failed to respond to instructions before things escalated and ended up with him in cuffs.
What Will Happen to Scheffler?
Although Scheffler has been charged, he has since been released by police and has returned to action of the course. Details surrounding upcoming legal proceedings haven’t been released, but Scheffler suggested “there was a big misunderstanding” of what he thought he was being asked to do. For now, he’ll focus on his performances on the course, but these charges are serious enough to suggest this won’t be the last we’ll be hearing about them.
