One of the best things about the Olympics is that it provides people around the world with access to sports that they likely don’t see a lot of. For the U.S., where basketball is a major part of everyday life for millions of fans, it’s no surprise to see the likes of Steph Curry performing at elite levels. However, for many newcomers to the sport, Curry put on a masterclass that showcased his greatness in breathtaking style.
With the 2024 Paris Olympics gold medal up for grabs, the U.S. was set to battle it out with France for the top spot. Despite France enjoying the talent of San Antonio Spurs superstar Victory Wembanyama, who scored 26 points in the game, it was Curry who helped lead the U.S. to gold.
Curry managed to score 24 points for the U.S. during the game, making 8 of his 14 attempted field goals, 8 of 13 three-pointers, and providing 5 assists to his teammates. However, perhaps the most notable moment of his performance came with just 16 seconds remaining in the final quarter. Curry was positioned in center court with the French team doing whatever they could to block his route to the basket, but the Golden State Warriors point guard released the ball while falling backwards and found his target perfectly. Notably, this was his third three-pointer in just over two minutes, paving the way for an 87-98 victory for the U.S. and adding Olympic gold to his already astonishing resume.
