Things are getting worse for Jake Paul regarding the defamation lawsuit Eddie Hearn filed against him in September 2022. The YouTuber turned professional boxer tried to have the suit dismissed but reports suggest a New York Judge has now denied the motion, meaning the two are set to attend a hearing on October 16th.
So, what is the defamation lawsuit all about?
It all started after Paul and Matchroom Boxing chairman Hearn had worked together to promote a card headlined by Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano. After the event, boxing judge Glenn Feldman was criticized for his scoring the fight as a win for Taylor by 97-93, which was seen as excessive by many. However, things then progressed when Feldman again found himself in the spotlight a few months later by scoring the Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk as a win for Joshua, which few people agreed with.
Following those events, Paul took part in an interview with IFL TV in which he suggested, “This type of s**t, I’m going to call it out here in boxing because it’s bulls**t. Clearly, this guy is getting paid money by Matchroom Boxing”.
Of course, Hearn was less than pleased with Paul’s comments and responded by noting “We all have a laugh with Jake and he’s an average fighter but I’m telling you now, what he said is unacceptable. It will be dealt with because we take this sport, our values as a family seriously and we love the sport of boxing”. Subsequently, Hearn has sued Paul for a reported $100 million due to alleged defamation.
