The Los Angeles Lakers endured a frustrating end to the season, with the team having been dumped from the NBA playoffs at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
However, what is just as concerned for fans is that they’re walking into the unknown next season and beyond, with superstar LeBron James yet to decide what he wants to do.
LeBron James on His Future
Following the postseason, James was always going to be asked about his future. The four-time NBA champion is 40 years old, and Father Time waits for nobody.
Responding to the question, James suggested, “I don't have the answer to that. Something I'll sit down with my wife and my support group and just talk through it and see what happens. Just have conversations with myself on how long I want to continue to play. I don't know the answer to that right now, to be honest. It's up to me if I'm going to continue to play, or how long I'm going to continue to play, so it has nothing to do with anybody else”.
Is James on the Decline?
Outside of whether James wants to continue, fans will be wondering whether he still has what it takes to lead the team. However, his stats for the most recent season suggest he’s got a lot left in the tank.
James averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game throughout the regular season and boasted a field goal completion rate of 51.3%.
Looking at points alone, James has seen a decline year on year over the last four seasons, averaging 30.3, 28.9, 25.7, and 24.4 points per game respectively. However, this is hardly a massive cause for concern right now.
