The Dallas Cowboys have officially added a major weapon to their offense, acquiring wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers in a multi-pick deal. In exchange, Dallas is sending a 2026 third-round and 2027 fifth-round pick to Pittsburgh, while receiving Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round selection.
Pickens, a 24-year-old playmaker, was a second-round selection by the Steelers in the 2022 NFL Draft. In three seasons with Pittsburgh, he totaled 174 receptions, 2,841 yards, and 12 touchdowns. Last season, he posted 900 yards and three scores on 59 catches, following a 1,140-yard, five-touchdown campaign the year before.
Cowboys Fill Urgent Need After Quiet Offseason
The move addresses a pressing need for Dallas, who lost Brandin Cooks in free agency and did not draft a wide receiver. With Pickens now joining four-time Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb, quarterback Dak Prescott gains a dangerous outside duo heading into 2025. Dallas also selected rookie guard Tyler Booker to boost an offense that ranked 21st in points per game last season.
Steelers Restructure Receiving Strategy Around DK Metcalf
Pittsburgh's decision to move Pickens comes after acquiring veteran wideout DK Metcalf earlier this offseason. Metcalf was signed to a four-year, $132 million extension, signaling a shift in offensive priorities. Despite Pickens’ production, Steelers president Art Rooney II acknowledged room for growth.
“George is a very talented player who has room to grow,” Rooney said after the 2024 season. “And we’d like to see him grow, and hopefully he realizes the potential that he has, but there’s definitely room for growth there.”
