The Patriots’ Mike Vrabel was left bloodied and bruised after jumping into the middle of a practice scrum during Wednesday’s practice with the Commanders. His bloodied cheek was spotted by a number of the players in the resulting huddle, and he was later seen icing it to control the swelling. Thankfully, things were settled on the practice field quickly and amicably, with no one ejected from the session.
Drake Maye Psyched Up
When your QB buys into what you’re trying to do as a franchise, you know you are going in the right direction and not looking back. "That's what we're trying to build, and it starts with the head coach — intensity, bringing it every day, taking no crap when we're out there on the field. The mentality, I like it. That's what you want,” added Maye when questioned after the conclusion of the session. He even added that Vrabel had jokingly told his players that there would be a detailed review of the film so they can critique his technique.
What Actually Happened?
It all started when TreVeyon Henderson, the rookie running back, tried to step up and block during a blitz pickup, only for a mountain of players to quickly build up on the field. These sorts of situations happen all the time during behind-closed-doors practice sessions, but it’s the passion from Vrabel that really shone through on Wednesday. One thing is for sure: it will be fascinating to see how the dog mentality he is instilling in his team manifests itself out there on the field when the season truly begins.
