The Cleveland Browns have made another big trade before the upcoming season, with quarterback Kenny Pickett heading to the Las Vegas Raiders in return for a fifth-round pick.
Browns Trim Roster
The Browns had five quarterbacks on their roster recently, but have decided to trim that down somewhat in advance of the new season.
The team had picked up Pickett from the Philadelphia Eagles in March and sent quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in the other direction.
Since then, the Browns have released Tyler Huntley, with Joe Flacco selected as the team’s starter, and Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel occupying backup roles.
Pete Carroll on Quarterback Search
It’s no secret that the Raiders have been searching for a new quarterback. The team currently has Cam Miller, which is undoubtedly a good thing, but as a rookie, there was certainly a need for some more experience on the roster.
Speaking about the team’s search for a new quarterback, coach Pete Carroll noted, “A guy that's had game experience is huge to me. Cam hasn't played in the league much, so we're looking for an experienced player that could help us”.
Reports suggest Pickett will join the roster as backup for Geno Smith, with Aidan O’Connell now out for up to 8 weeks with a fractured wrist.
Pickett in Numbers
27-year-old Pickett has made a combined 30 appearances for the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Philadelphia Eagles since 2022. In that time, he threw for 4,765 yards and 15 touchdowns with 14 interceptions.
