The Seattle Mariners won the AL West title for the first time since 2001 on Wednesday night with a 9-2 victory at home to the Colorado Rockies.
It was their sixth win in a row, notching their 16th in the last 17 games to give them some solid momentum in the upcoming MLB postseason as they make a charge for the World Series.
Cal Raleigh was a notable standout on the night, as he hit two home runs to secure the victory. His two homers would take him to the top of the MLB leaderboard for most hit this season, as he recorded his 60th of the campaign.
Raleigh Makes History With Huge Homers
In reaching 60 for the season, Raleigh managed to make history as he joined an illustrious group of sluggers. He became the seventh player to have a 60-homer season, following in the footsteps of greatness like Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire (twice), Sammy Sosa (three times), Aaron Judge, Roger Maris, and Babe Ruth. He is just two away from matching Judge’s record-setting 62 in the AL that was set in 2022.
However, more historically, Raleigh became the first catcher to ever achieve the accomplishment. He had solo hits in the first and eighth, with a two-run double in the second as he went 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
Raleigh’s first homer was in the first inning when he hit it for 438 feet when the team was on one out. His second was in the eighth when he put them 9-1 up with a 389-foot strike to the right of T-Mobile Park.
