Scottie Scheffler will be breathing a sigh of relief today following the news that he’ll face no further issues relating to his recent run-in with the law.
So, what happened to get the world's number-one golfer in this mess in the first place? Earlier in May, he was arrested outside the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky during the PGA Championship. Following an unrelated traffic collision, Scheffler allegedly tried to force his way into the club, despite police officers denying access while they dealt with the ongoing situation. The incident led to Scheffler being arrested and subsequently charged with a felony and several misdemeanours, including assault of a police officer, third-degree criminal mischief, reckless driving, and resisting arrest.
Charges Dropped
Despite the above, Jefferson County prosecutors have now decided to drop the case against Scheffler following a hearing on 29th May. Reports suggest prosecutors agreed that the incident and Scheffler’s subsequent arrest were simply a misunderstanding and that there was evidence to confirm this claim.
Interestingly, Scheffler’s account of the incident includes an officer allegedly grabbing his shoulder and then hitting him. He went on to describe this as “a little bit over-aggressive”, but there is no evidence of this occurring because the officer in question reportedly did not have his camera turned on, which is a violation of the LMPD police on uniforms and equipment, according to Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel.
Nevertheless, Scheffler will be happy to get Mulligan and move on from the case.
