Things have not been going well for Jorge Lopez recently and his future in MLB now has a feeling of uncertainty surrounding it. The 2022 All-Star selectee’s problems were sparked by an issue he had with third-base umpire Ramon De Jesus in a 10-3 defeat against the Los Angeles Dodgers, with the New York Mets reliever getting into an argument that saw him ejected from the game.
However, the main problem here was that Lopez reacted horrendously to the ejection and threw his glove into the stands. Following the game, he then doubled down and suggested he didn’t regret his actions and seemed to call the Mets “the worst team in all of f***ing MLB”.

Unfortunately for Lopez, his actions have now cost him his place with the Mets because they immediately made him designated for assignment.
Initially, some had questioned whether this was in part due to his performances since signing a one-year contract with the franchise in December 2023, but manager Carlos Mendoza was quick to refuse that claim, stating “We have standards here. When you’re not playing well, guys will show emotions. There’s frustrations, but there’s a fine line and yesterday went over that line”.
Notably, Lopez has since apologized for his actions and outlined he understood he’d let down his teammates, coaches, and Mets fans. However, he also suggested his comments about the Mets were misconstrued and that he was referring to himself being the worst teammate in the MLB.
