Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin swapped the field for a court over the weekend and managed to impress with a buzzer-beater that quickly went viral across social media platforms. 

Hamlin was the host of a celebrity basketball game in Pittsburgh through his charity, The Chasing M’s Foundation. The event was put together to help increase awareness surrounding the importance of CPR training, which is an important part of Hamlin’s life these days, following his cardiac arrest during a game in the 2022 season.

Hamlin’s Buzzer Beater

With seconds remaining in the game, Hamlin made headlines with an impressive game-winning step-back three, which was received with huge cheers from those in attendance. Hamlin rightfully embraced the moment by removing his jersey and running a lap of honor in celebration.

One of the notable responses to Hamlin’s viral three-pointer came from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson. The former Super Bowl champion and nine-time Pro Bowl selectee took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Hamlin, posting a clip of the moment with the caption “@HamlinIsland for 3!!! Game winner in the Burgh!!!”. 

Conference Rivals

Despite playing college football at Pittsburgh, Hamlin has been with the Bills since 2021 and is, therefore, a direct rival of Wilson. However, the two won’t meet on the field in 2024 unless it’s via a post-season game.

Nevertheless, rivalries can and are certainly put aside for important moments like this, and Wilson showed a touch of class by hyping Hamlin’s efforts.
