Although France got off to a great start in Group D of Euro 2024 with a 0-1 win over Austria, fans have been left worried about their superstar, Kylian Mbappe. The former PSG forward and recent recruit of Real Madrid was involved in a collision with Kevin Danso during the game that led to him being taken to Dusseldorf Hospital. It has since been confirmed that Mbappe suffered from a broken nose.
Luckily, doctors have also noted that Mbappe won’t need surgery to correct the issue, but the worry for fans, players, and coaches alike is whether he’ll be ready to return to action quickly. As things stand, it seems that France are looking for a custom mask for Mbappe to wear throughout the rest of the tournament, which would allow him to continue to play but would protect his nose from further damage.
When Will Mbappe Return?
Initial fears that Mbappe might not be able to play again at Euro 2024 were quashed, with news circulating that he was scheduled to miss only the next game. Of course, with this being against the Netherlands, this certainly wouldn’t be ideal. However, it would mean that he would return to the pitch to face Poland on June 25th.
However, reports now suggest that Mbappe could be sidelined for the remainder of the group stage. This wouldn’t necessarily be a disaster for the team, with them expected to progress to the knockout stages either way. However, there’s no doubt that the team will be weakened without Mbappe in the starting 11, so everyone will be hoping he can return quickly.
