There has been a lot of talk surrounding Katie Ledecky and her legacy in advance of the 2024 Paris Olympics. There’s no doubt that the legendary swimmer has already written her name in the history books, but it’s fair to say she’s lived up to the hype once again in Paris.
As the world looked on, Ledecky took to the 1500m Freestyle event with such confidence that it almost looked too easy for her. Considering she was up against the best swimmers in the world, Ledecky made light work of the competition and cruised to her first gold of the games, setting a new Olympic record in the process.
However, Ledecky has since gone on to secure a silver medal in the 4 x 200m Freestyle event alongside Claire Weinstein, Paige Madden, and Erin Gemmell. Although the team was beaten by Australia in the final, this silver medal now means that Ledecky is the most decorated U.S. female athlete in Olympic history. At 27 years old, she now has a staggering 13 Olympic medals to her name, and there have been no signs she’s planning to stop there.
For those who want to tune in to see Ledecky compete again, you’ll have a chance to do so on Friday when she takes part in the 800m Freestyle heats. Should she advance from this, Ledecky would then take to the pool again on Saturday for the 800m Freestyle finals, with a 14th Olympic medal potentially in sight.
