Things couldn’t be going more to plan for the gymnast many believe to be the greatest of all time. Yes, we’re talking about none other than Simone Biles, with the 27-year-old having now secured her second gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
With the team gold already obtained by Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, and Hezly Rivera, it was time to move on to the individual all-around event. This was an opportunity for Biles to again put the disaster of 2021 behind her and show the world that she’s still number one, which she first did in 2016.
Biles went on to do just that, and it’s fair to say she did it in style. Having secured a score of 15.766 on the vault, 13.733 on the uneven bars, 14.566 on the balance beam, and 15.006 on the floor exercise, Biles managed to score a total of 59.131, which gave her a 1.199 margin over second-placed Rebecca Andrade of Brazil, and a 2.666 margin over USA’s Sunisa Lee in third place.
Next up for Biles is the women’s vault final and another opportunity to build on her already staggering legacy in the sport. As things stand, she is considered the heavy favorite to win yet another gold medal. On paper, her biggest competition in the event includes Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade and fellow Team USA member, Jade Carey. However, Biles will be looking to win her third gold medal of the tournament and it’s difficult to see how she’ll be stopped.
