Former Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle, Gosder Cherilus, has found his name in the headlines for all the wrong reasons today. The 40-year-old former first-round pick of the 2008 NFL Draft has been arrested by Massachusetts Strate Police for allegedly being a major nuisance on a flight from Boston to Dublin Ireland on 17th August.
So, what happened? Reports suggest Cherilus became unruly while traveling on Delta flight 154 and is alleged to have urinated on another passenger. As such, flight staff requested State Police deal with the issue and the plane was subsequently routed back to Boston.
If that wasn’t bad enough, reports also suggest Cherilus was uncooperative with troopers and refused to disembark. Therefore, things escalated again, and Cherilus was escorted off the plane before being arrested.
The incident seems to have been traumatic for many of Flight 154’s passengers - especially the person Cherilus is alleged to have urinated on. However, passengers were booked onto a new flight, which landed in Dublin on Monday morning.
Following the incident, Cherilus will now seemingly face charges of disorderly conduct and disturbing a flight crew. The airline subsequently released a statement, noting, “Delta has zero tolerance for unlawful behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement to that end. We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel”.
What happens next with Cherilus remains to be seen, but it’s safe to say this wasn’t the smartest idea he’s ever had.
