The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t had much to scream about in the last few weeks. Having finished the regular season with a four-game losing streak, the team then fell at the first postseason hurdle, with a 28-14 defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.
Subsequently, there have been a lot of ongoing discussions about the potential future of head coach Mike Tomlin, with some people speculating he could be moving on from the role after a disappointing season that saw the Steelers exit in the first round of the postseason for the sixth year running.
Nevertheless, Tomlin has quickly sent out a strong message to potential suitors that he has no plans to change his career trajectory. Speaking during his final interview of the season, the head coach noted, “Save your time. I understand the nature of what it is that we do, the attention and criticism that comes with it," he said. "As a matter of fact, I embrace it, to be quite honest with you. I enjoy the urgency that comes with what I do and what we do. I don't make excuses for failure. I own it, but I also feel like I'm capable and so as long as I'm afforded an opportunity to do that, I will continue, but I certainly understand their frustrations and probably more importantly than that, I share it because that's how I'm wired”.
Outside of the drama surrounding Tomlin’s future, there are likely to be several changes taking place within the organization over the next few months. Whether the team will be in a position to put on a better display next season remains to be seen.
