Jonathan Allen has enjoyed a successful career in the NFL, with the defensive tackle having been selected as a round-one pick by the Washington Commanders (then the Redskins) in the 2017 draft. During his time with the organization, Allen earned his status as a two-time Pro Bowler but was granted permission to seek a trade in February 2025 and was subsequently released in March after not finding a trade partner.
However, it has now been announced that the Minnesota Vikings have signed Allen, with reports suggesting it is a three-year deal worth $60 million. At 30 years old, the defensive tackle’s minutes have been limited recently, and this was made worse after he was forced out of action for a while with a pectoral injury last season. Despite this, he made 19 regular season appearances for the Commanders last season and managed to record 16 solo tackles and 3 sacks in that time.
The reaction of Vikings fans to the announcement of Allen’s signing appears to be overwhelmingly positive, although some have voiced concerns over the three-year deal considering his age and the cost. However, that’s not the only good news the organization delivered, with them having also secured the services of top free agent Will Fries. Reports suggest he’ll join the Vikings on a five-year deal worth $88 million. The 26-year-old guard is making a comeback from a serious tibia injury suffered last season, but is expected to make a full recovery.
