Social media platforms are filled with great stories about superstars interacting with their fans – whether for better or worse. In theory, it should be a fantastic thing for both parties, but there’s a darker side to such interactions that understandably leaves celebrities feeling somewhat unnerved.
A great example of this can be seen in reports that former heavyweight boxing champion, Evander Holyfield, was chased by an unhappy fan and was forced to call the police.
Accounts of the event suggest Holyfield was interacting with fans in Los Angeles County in April when an individual approached with some merchandise that he was hoping Holyfield would autograph for him. However, Holyfield was seemingly not interested in handing out fresh autographs and instead opted to provide the man with a pre-signed photograph.
For many, although this might have been disappointing, it would have been the end of the story. However, reports suggest the man was not pleased with Holyfield’s actions and decided to first chase him on foot before continuing his pursuit by car. Members of Holyfield’s entourage took the threat so seriously that police were called, but there were no signs of the angered fan upon their arrival.
It should be noted that Holyfield has yet to talk about the incident publicly, so details are somewhat thin. Nevertheless, this situation does highlight the potential problems with stars interacting with fans because, although 99% of these incidents might be enjoyable, there’s always a risk with the 1% that doesn’t go as planned.
